Hersha Parady was an American actress best known for her role as Alice Garvey in Little House on the Prairie.
Parady, originally known as Betty Sandhoff, was born in Berea, Ohio and attended Berea High School. At the age of 14, she began her acting career by participating in local theatrical productions in the Cleveland area. In the early 1970s, she moved to the West Coast to further her acting career and landed a role opposite Jon Voight in a touring production of A Streetcar Named Desire.
Parady’s television career began with guest appearances in Mannix, Bearcats!, and The Waltons. She was considered for the role of Caroline Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie but ultimately lost out to Karen Grassle.
However, she did play the role of Eliza Anne Ingalls, Charles’ sister-in-law, in the 1976 episode Journey in the Spring. In 1977, she was cast as Alice Garvey in Little House on the Prairie, a role she played until 1980 when her character was killed in a fire accidentally set by Albert Ingalls.
Following her time on Little House on the Prairie, Parady made only rare appearances on television, including a role in Kenan & Kel. Parady was previously married to Oscar-winning producer John Peverall and had one child with him.
